Our Swatch • Lot

Individuality determines our lives in almost every area. Here you will see how four individuals have managed to bring together four completely different designs into a joint design for a Swatch watch. Experience how a penguin, an X-ray image, a Planetarian and a lady golfer have fallen into a bucket of paint and have emerged into a new, unique design.

The auction

In summer 2011, news spread like wildfire among the Swatch collectors' circle, that the famous "Blum Collection" would be auctioned in Hong Kong in November 2011. After Swatch The Club announced a trip to Hong Kong to witness the sale, it was clear to us that we wanted to be present and part of the event. The main lot (of the collection Blum) however, didn't quite attract us. Instead, one of the accompanying lots had aroused our attention: Lot 7 - My Swatch: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a real Swatch watch in a limited edition of (only!) 100 pieces. The day we had all been waiting for had finally arrived: November, 24th 2011. That morning, we were invited to an exclusive preview of 291 out of a total of 4363 Swatch watches at the "Four Seasons" Hotel in Hong Kong...

The development steps

After winning the auction, a few practical matters had to be arranged: How do we communicate with each other? When and where do we meet? How do we want to develop a common design? We agreed that we wanted to meet at least once at each co-designer's home. Countless emails were exchanged between ourselves and we met regularly (about ten times) until we finally completed our joint project successfully. Below we have listed the individual meetings to document the development from the beginning to the end.

The final result

My first Swatch was the GB 103. For the first time, I found a watch that had a modern design in my eyes. SWATCH has made it possible to wear art on one's wrist.

The Andrew LOGAN's Jelly FISH is still the perfect symbiosis of art and SWATCH for me. I asked myself: Could there be more? The radiography of this work of art shows a very different and exciting perspective which I can now share with many.

I opted for the young lady golfer in exactly this position and from this perspective because I have a similar huge poster of a young woman playing tennis in my office. I enjoy this sight every day as it significantly sweetens my working day.

Since 1995, I have been collecting Swatch watches. I connect freedom, provocation and happiness with Swatch. The passion of collecting has become my main hobby. Through this hobby, I have found many highlyvalued friends and they have become an important part of my life.

At first, I had chosen the image of the hood ornament of my 1955 built Jaguar sports car, but the implementation of this idea failed due to the copyright restrictions of the British car company. Afterwards, I chose a figure of my artist friend DEES Schwertberger (www.dees.at). 40 Planetarians were produced and painted to mark the 900th anniversary of the city of Bern. I was able to acquire a few of these figures. They are exhibited in Brugg.

Being a big penguin fan (don't ask me why) and because I work in the IT branch, "Tux The Linux Penguin" was an obvious choice. Together with other friends who are likewise Swatch collectors, we have always dreamt of a Swatch watch with a bold picture of a penguin on it.

I have been seriously collecting Swatch watches since the mid 90s after being 'infected' by the Swatch virus at the 'Access To Space' event in Lucerne. Eversince then, I have been managing a website (https://www.stay-tuned-to-sw.de/swatch.html) with all the latest Swatch news (for almost 20 years now). Some collectors call it "the CNN of the Swatch world".
